As they continue their partner work to add multiple two-digit values to approximate but not exceed $300, some students revise their thinking. (“I figured it out but I was wrong.”) Other students make use of available tools, like place-value blocks, to check their thinking.

Some of my students’ parents comment to me that “Math is so different now.” But it’s really not. I'm just exposing them to different ways of how to do it. That's what I always try to tell them, because math is still math; just teaching them the reasoning behind it and exposing them to different ways of how to do it so that they can be successful with it.
